If you breastfeed or want to breastfeed your baby, professional help and a Youha breast pump are indispensable. Did you know that some health insurers offer reimbursement when purchasing a breast pump? The amount can even go up to 200 euros.
Conditions and requirements
The conditions for reimbursement for a breast pump differ per insurer and can be as follows:
- No specific requirements: You can purchase a breast pump yourself and declare the invoice, once or per delivery.
- Only reimbursement with prescription: You will only receive reimbursement if a recognized lactation consultant prescribes a breast pump.
- Referral required: A referral from the general practitioner, midwife or clinic doctor to a recognized lactation consultant is required. The reimbursement is only valid if the lactation consultant subsequently prescribes a breast pump.

Which insurance will cover a breast pump in 2024?
Are you expecting a child in 2024? Then you can still adjust your health insurance until December 31, 2023. It is generally wise to consult the health insurer's policy or care finder to see whether reimbursement can take place. Here is a brief summary of the four largest health insurers:
VGZ
VGZ Supplementary Better and Supplementary Best reimburse a breast pump and consultation with a recognized lactation consultant. You can receive a one-off payment of 80 euros for the purchase of a breast pump. For a (pumping) consultation with a recognized lactation consultant, 200 euros will be reimbursed per delivery.
Silver Cross
Zilveren Kruis breast pump reimbursement: Both Zilveren Kruis Supplementary 2, 3 and 4 stars offer reimbursement for the breast pump, up to a maximum of 75 euros per pregnancy. They also reimburse a (pumping) consultation with the lactation consultant, varying from 80 to 115 euros, depending on the additional package.
CZ
CZ does not reimburse the purchase of a breast pump. However, they do reimburse a consultation with the lactation consultant up to 200 euros per year, which you can use for a (pumping) consultation.
Menzis
With the Menzis Extra Verzorgd 2 or Extra Verzorgd 3 supplementary insurance you receive a maximum of 200 euros per calendar year for lactation. This amount can be spent on guidance and aids, including the purchase or rental of a breast pump, following a prescription by a recognized lactation consultant.
