Breast shields & reducers

A well-fitting breast shield is important for comfortable and pleasant pumping. Within this collection, you will find all Youha breast shields and breast shield reducers for the Gen 1, Next, Gen 2, and Evera breast pumps. Choose the correct shield or reducer based on your pump model and nipple size.

Youha Breast Shields & Reducers

A breast shield is the part of the breast pump that is placed against the breast during pumping. The opening of the shield must fit your nipple size well, so that your nipple can move freely in the tunnel during pumping.

Is the standard breast shield too large? In many cases, you can use a breast shield reducer. This reduces the opening of the existing breast shield without immediately needing a completely new shield.

Within this collection, you will find breast shields and reducers for the Youha Gen 1, Youha The Ins NEXT, Youha Gen 2, and Youha Evera.

Why is the correct breast shield size important?

The correct breast shield size can make a big difference during pumping. A breast shield that is too large or too small can feel uncomfortable and cause the nipple not to move properly through the tunnel.

With a well-fitting breast shield, the nipple moves freely through the tunnel without constantly rubbing against the sides. Also, not unnecessarily much breast tissue is pulled into the shield.

Because nipples differ per person, the standard size of a breast pump is not automatically the correct size for everyone.

What is a breast shield reducer?

A breast shield reducer is an insert that you place into a larger breast shield. This makes the opening of the shield smaller. A reducer can be useful when the original breast shield fits the breast well, but the tunnel around the nipple is too wide. It is important to use the correct combination of breast shield and reducer. Not every reducer fits every breast shield.

Breast Shields for Youha Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2

The Youha Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2 use the same shape of breast shields and breast shield reducers. For these breast pumps, breast shields are available in:

  • 24 mm
  • 28 mm

The available breast shield reducers for these models are:

  • 17 mm
  • 18 mm
  • 19 mm
  • 20 mm
  • 21 mm
  • 22 mm
  • 26 mm

Which reducer fits the 24 mm breast shield?

The reducers of 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22 mm are intended for use in the 24 mm breast shield of the Youha Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2. You place the reducer in the 24 mm shield to adjust the opening to your nipple size.

Which reducer fits the 28 mm breast shield?

The 26 mm breast shield reducer fits exclusively into the 28 mm breast shield. The 26 mm reducer does not fit the 24 mm breast shield. If you have a nipple size that requires a 26 mm opening, you need the 28 mm breast shield in combination with the 26 mm reducer.

Breast Shields for the Youha Evera

The Youha Evera has a different design than the Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2. The Evera is narrower and has an oval shape. As a result, this breast pump uses its own breast shields and reducers.

Evera breast shields are available in:

  • 21 mm
  • 24 mm
  • 27 mm

These breast shields are specifically designed for the Youha Evera and are not interchangeable with the breast shields of the Gen 1, Next, or Gen 2.

Breast Shield Reducers for the Youha Evera

Separate breast shield reducers are available for the Youha Evera in:

  • 15 mm
  • 17 mm
  • 19 mm

These reducers are also specially designed for the narrower and oval shape of the Evera. Evera reducers only fit the Youha Evera. They cannot be used in the breast shields of the Gen 1, Next, or Gen 2.

Why does the Evera have its own breast shields?

The Youha Evera has a different construction than the earlier Youha hands-free breast pumps. The collection cup and breast shield are more compact, narrower, and oval in shape.

As a result, the breast shields and reducers also have a different shape. An Evera breast shield therefore does not fit on a Gen 1, Next, or Gen 2 and vice versa. Always check which Youha breast pump model you are using before ordering.

How to determine the correct breast shield size?

The correct size is primarily determined by the diameter of your nipple. Measure the nipple itself and not the areola.

It is also important to observe how the shield actually fits during pumping. A measurement is a good starting point, but comfort during pumping remains important.

Pay attention to, for example:

  • the nipple must be able to move freely through the tunnel;
  • the nipple should not constantly rub against the tunnel;
  • not an unnecessary amount of areola should be pulled into the tunnel;
  • pumping should not be painful;
  • the breast shield must fit snugly against the breast.

Can your breast shield size change?

Yes. The size of your nipples can change during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is therefore possible that a breast shield that was previously comfortable may no longer fit optimally at a later time.

Also, the left and right nipples do not have to be exactly the same size. It is therefore possible that you need a different breast shield size or reducer on both sides. If you notice that pumping suddenly becomes less comfortable, it may be wise to recheck the fit.

Breast Shield or Breast Shield Reducer?

Whether you need a full breast shield or a reducer depends on your size and the type of Youha breast pump. For the Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2, you can, for example, combine a 24 mm breast shield with reducers from 17 to 22 mm. For 26 mm, you use a 28 mm breast shield with a 26 mm reducer.

For the Evera, you have a choice of its own breast shields of 21, 24, and 27 mm and its own reducers of 15, 17, and 19 mm.

Can you place a reducer within a reducer?

No. A breast shield reducer is intended to be placed directly into the appropriate breast shield. It is not intended to place multiple reducers within each other to create an even smaller size. Always choose the correct size reducer and the corresponding breast shield.

When should you replace a breast shield or reducer?

Regularly check breast shields and reducers for damage, cracks, deformation, or wear. A reducer must remain securely in the breast shield, and the material must retain its original shape.

If a part is damaged or deformed, replace it with a suitable part for your specific Youha breast pump.

Cleaning Breast Shields

Breast shields and reducers come into direct contact with the breast and breast milk during pumping. Proper cleaning is therefore important. Disassemble the parts after use and clean them according to the instructions for your Youha breast pump.

Allow the parts to dry thoroughly after cleaning before using or storing them again.

What to pay attention to when ordering?

When ordering a breast shield or reducer, always check three things:

  • Your pump model: Gen 1, Next, Gen 2, or Evera;
  • Your required size: based on your nipple size and fit during pumping;
  • The correct combination: check if the reducer fits the chosen breast shield.

This is especially important for the Evera, as the Evera uses completely its own breast shields and reducers.

What do experts say about the correct breast shield size?

A well-fitting breast shield is an important part of comfortable pumping. Not only the strength or settings of a breast pump determine how pleasant a pumping session is; the fit of the shield also plays a major role.

An opening that is too large or too small can be uncomfortable. Therefore, it is wise to check your nipple size and pay close attention to how the nipple moves through the tunnel during pumping.

If you experience pain during pumping, are unsure about your size, or cannot find a comfortable fit, a lactation consultant or other expert can help you.

Youha Breast Shields & Reducers

Within this collection, you will find all Youha breast shields and breast shield reducers for the Gen 1, Next, Gen 2, and Evera breast pumps.

For the Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2, breast shields are available in 24 and 28 mm, and reducers in 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 26 mm. The 17 to 22 mm reducers fit the 24 mm shield, and the 26 mm reducer fits exclusively the 28 mm shield.

Due to its narrower and oval design, the Youha Evera uses completely its own parts. For this, breast shields are available in 21, 24, and 27 mm, and reducers in 15, 17, and 19 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Shields & Reducers

Which breast shield sizes are available for the Youha Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2?

For the Youha Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2, breast shields are available in 24 mm and 28 mm. These three models use the same shape of breast shields.

Which reducers are available for the Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2?

For the Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2, breast shield reducers are available in 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 26 mm.

Which reducers fit the 24 mm breast shield?

The reducers of 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22 mm fit the 24 mm breast shield of the Youha Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2.

Which reducer fits the 28 mm breast shield?

The 26 mm breast shield reducer fits exclusively into the 28 mm breast shield. The 26 mm reducer is therefore not suitable for the 24 mm breast shield.

Are the breast shields of Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2 the same?

Yes. The Youha Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2 use the same breast shields and the same corresponding breast shield reducers. Always pay attention to the correct size and combination of shield and reducer.

What breast shield sizes does the Youha Evera have?

For the Youha Evera, its own breast shields are available in 21 mm, 24 mm, and 27 mm. These shields are specially designed for the narrower and oval shape of the Evera.

What breast shield reducers does the Youha Evera have?

For the Youha Evera, its own breast shield reducers are available in 15 mm, 17 mm, and 19 mm.

Do Evera reducers also fit a Gen 1, Next, or Gen 2?

No. The Evera has a narrower and oval design and therefore uses its own breast shields and reducers. Evera reducers only fit appropriate Evera breast shields.

Do breast shields from Gen 1, Next, or Gen 2 fit the Evera?

No. The Youha Evera has a different, narrower and oval shape. The breast shields of Gen 1, Next, and Gen 2 are therefore not suitable for the Evera, and Evera shields do not fit these other models.

How do I know which breast shield size I need?

Measure the diameter of your nipple and observe the actual fit during pumping. The nipple must be able to move freely through the tunnel without constantly rubbing against the sides and without an unnecessary amount of breast tissue being pulled in.

Can my left and right breast require a different breast shield size?

Yes. The nipples do not have to have exactly the same diameter on both sides. It is therefore possible that you need a different size breast shield or reducer on the left and right.

Can my breast shield size change during the breastfeeding period?

Yes. Your nipples and breasts can change during pregnancy and breastfeeding. When pumping becomes less comfortable, it may therefore be wise to recheck the size and fit.

Can I place two breast shield reducers inside each other?

No. A breast shield reducer is intended to be placed directly into the appropriate breast shield. Do not use multiple reducers inside each other to create a different size.
